Worship Services

Worship Services

St. Ann’s offers opportunities for worship throughout the week, including a service especially for children.

Children’s Church, Sundays at 10:00 am – Children’s Church offers children and their families an informal and interactive worship service in the Parish Hall. Children under the age of seven should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sunday School begins at 11:00 am.

Holy Eucharist, Sundays at 11:00 am – St. Ann’s main service with Communion takes place every Sunday. This service includes the laying on of hands and anointing for those who desire prayers for healing. From September to June, our Sunday service is a Choral Eucharist accompanied by the organ and full choir. Music on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday is especially festive with the addition of strings or brass and an expanded choir.

Weekday Services – A brief service of the Holy Eucharist is held on Tuesdays at 12:30 pm and on Thursdays at 6:00 pm.

Baptisms

Baptism
Before seeking baptism for oneself or for family members, you should attend St. Ann’a as a regular member, because those baptized are part of the parish family that continues to nurture and expand the Christian experience.

For the infant or child to be baptized, both, or at least one, parent must themselves be baptized. Godparents should definitely be Christian, or if not, at least one should be Episcopalian. Adult candidates must acknowledge a genuine desire to become a Christian and attend a series of pre-baptism instruction. Parents, godparents, and sponsors undertake this preparation on behalf of infants and children to be baptized. Baptisms take place at the Easter Vigil (the night before Easter Sunday) or during a Sunday service on a few prescribed days during the year. The service of baptism can be found in The Book of Common Prayer. To discuss baptism, contact the Priest-in-Charge.

Weddings

Wedding
Couples wishing to be married at St. Ann’s, including same-sex couples, should attend St. Ann’s regularly, and then contact the Priest-in-Charge, to discuss their intentions, possible dates, and the costs involved. (This should take place before making any arrangements with photographers or others.) It is preferred that the couple be active members of the parish, but it is not a requirement. At least one of the couple must be a baptized Christian. If there has been a previous divorce for one or both individuals, the priest must obtain permission from the Bishop of the Diocese of Long Island in order to perform the ceremony. This process can take several months. Several pre-marital counseling sessions with the priest are required. These meetings permit the couple to examine their own relationship more deeply and to confirm their understanding of the commitment of marriage. The ceremony itself conforms to “The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage” in The Book of Common Prayer.

Funerals

Parishioners are encouraged to include funeral plans and other final arrangements in their wills. The deceased need not have been a member of St. Ann’s. For all arrangements, contact the Priest-in-Charge.
